Ellery McLanahan • Chairman
Ellery McLanahan is a native of New York City currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia. Ellery grew up in the northeast where he attended the prestigious Brooks School in Massachusetts. After graduating Ellery served two years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps before earning his B.A. from Yale University.
Following Yale, Ellery embarked on a career in financial services, a profession that has taken him from Wall Street, through the corridors of some the nation’s leading investment banking and brokerage firms. Fresh out of college Ellery joined Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., a division of J.P. Morgan & Company, at 23 Wall Street in New York City, working directly across the street from the New York Stock Exchange. He then moved to investment banking and stock brokerage starting with Equitable Securities, working for Merrill Lynch and ultimately becoming branch manager of both W.E. Hutton & Co. and Dean Witter Reynolds in Houston. In these roles he oversaw extensive revenue producing offices for these large New York Stock Exchange investment banking and brokerage firms.
Ellery has enjoyed a successful career spanning 40 years in banking, investment banking and commodity markets, specializing in commodity transactions. For several years during this time he also owned and operated Spectrum Commodity Trading Advisors.
Ellery’s experience in long term financing through both equity placement and corporate/municipal debt issuance has enabled him to adapt his skills and keep pace in today’s fast moving financial world. He founded the financial side of Resource Business Services (RBS) to leverage this expertise and provide a unique service to clients. As a small privately held firm, RBS offers personalized and confidential consulting services to commercial clients.
Now Ellery focuses on providing private, fee based, consultation services for clients seeking advice about how to carry out non-securitized physical commodity transactions. He is intrigued by the history of trading in physical commodities between commercial interests which dates back to the earliest days of humankind. Whether carried out on land or sea, or a combination of both, the passing of commercial title between purchaser and seller is at the very basis of trade.
Through RBS he has established relationships around the globe, on practically every continent, and in a host of countries, so that we can assist our clients in completing commercial transactions in physical commodities or products derived from those commodities.
